Hello,

Last night, I did a cydia upggrade on one app (xcon) and near the end of it's upggrade process, the iphone froze at the spinning wheel. I waited and got nothing. It showed the install was complete. So I did a reboot (holding the sleep/wake button at the top right of the device and the home button at the bottom center).
The apple logo showed up and then the spinning wheel appeared. Spinning wheel displayed frozen and then intermittently spin; off and on.
I allowed it to spin from 15 min to over night with no success. ( I tried several reboots. :(

it's a JB iphone 4s on ios 5.0.1.
I have the shsh on my mac and on cydia. I dont want to lose my apps or data.
Can I restore this and preserve my data and apps?

How to I go about repairing this issue and keeping it on ios 5.0.1, or do I upgrade to 5.1.1?

Please help.
Many thanks, in advance.

Hold down the volume up boot while the phone boots
Once in SafeMode use Cydia to remove xCon
Then reboot

By the way the newest xCon is working fine on all my iDevices.
Try a re-install after you fix it

Thank you.
This helped to get my iphone back up, however,
Several things have changed:

(1) layout of the apps on the display have changed/moved,

(2) many of the cydia apps (ie. sbs settings, 5 column dock, 5 column row springboard..) are not working, even though it shows "installed" on cydia. I reinstalled but still not working)

(3) I removed Xcon and then reinstalled. still most cydia apps not working.

(4) I turned off the iphone and restarted: phone will not boot up (spinning wheel shows and seems to keep rebooting every several minutes)

only way to get back to passcode window was holding the volume up button during reboot.

What to do now?

well...none of the addons I have installed are working. :(

as of now, I tried to reboot and holding down the volume up button...it wont reboot....I keep getting the spinning wheel hanging....
my passcode window doesnt show up now...

Did you do a JustBoot tethered, a regular reboot or restart will not get it back into a jailbroken state. A JustBoot is required every single time you reboot or turn the phone off

If none of this works, sounds like a restore is required (even though you don't want to)

A 4S can only be restored to 5.x.x if it was updated to current firmware via iTunes (not on factory fresh install of 5.0.1 or an OTA install) and the hash file was saved after the iTunes update.

If none of this applies to your situation, you can only restore to iOS6
