Hello

I am going to buy a Mac for music recording and graphic design, movie editing, etc. I will have two, one only for music recording and one for the graphic design, movie editing, etc.

I have space for only one now.

Which is best to get now, a M1 Mac Mini or a 14in or 16in M1 Macbook Pro?

If the M1 Mac Mini, is 16 gigs best?

I dont want the hassle of unplugging the music recording devices from the Mac when moving it to use for graphic design, movie editing, etc. I will use a drawing tablet with it so need to move to a space where can draw. Or move the music devices out of the way for drawing.

I thought about the Mac Studio but I think that will be overkill for the music recording.

I have a Mac Mini M1 512/16. My biggest disappointment relates to how memory is handled. I'll. simply say that I might have a couple of minor apps open, mail and a couple of browser pages open in Safari. When I go to work in my art program, literally the art program tools starts failing to work. If I either close up the Safari tabs and purge memory (with Memory Diag), it may start to work again. The Mini has lots of power and handles all fairly well when there is memory available.
Moving forward - I opted to add to the mix a Mac Studio max lowest model, 64 gigs RAM and 1 tb drive. So far, all works well without incident. Some folks mention a whine or high pitched sound from their Mac Studios. I got lucky I guess as mine is very quiet (as in putting my ear about 4 inches from it and listening).

In your case - I would go for the MBP and whatever your budget allows get at least 32 gigs RAM and 24 core w/ 1 terabyte internal. If you really are not planning to move around and the Mini was in fact an option, you can also look at the Mac Studio that will come out cheaper than the above option for the MBP 14." This is under the assumption you have a keyboard, mouse and monitor already.

Last - you might want to casually check out "Artisright" on Youtube. Has a few videos that are easy to view and may inspire.

No, the Mac Studio is what you want.
Base model should do fine.
Or, "bump up" the SSD to 1tb.

In fact, a Mac Studio would be fine for BOTH audio and video production.
Why buy two, when one will do...?
