Hi,

I don’t own an iPad at present and looking to purchase my first.
Decided on 12.9 screen size but unsure whether to get M1 or M2.
Please help me make up my mind 🤣

If you find M1 for cheaper (typically it's a couple of hundreds cheaper where I live), M2 is not worth the extra money

Since you have presented zero idea of a use case and the only notable difference is the chip, I’ll take a wild guess and say that the M1 iPad is most likely sufficient.

If you can get the M1 model cheaper, would the saving appeal to you over paying for M2?
Is the M2‘s performance boost (12% single core, 20% multi-core, 30% GPU) meaningful to you?
Is the M2’s ability to shoot video in ProRes relevant to you?
What can you afford?

You probably won’t notice the differences between the M1and M2. The Apple Pencil 2 has a hover feature with the M2 chip. For me that would not be a deal maker or breaker. YMMV

Depends on the savings and deal you can find an m1 for. Don’t think we’ve seen the floor yet. 100-200 is hardly an incentive. I could get m2 with that off.

Way I look at is, look what apple offers for trade in. You shouldn’t be paying much more. 100-200 more than that. So 700ish for 128.

I just bought the M1 256gb 12.9, Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard for £1450. Would barely get the M2 and pencil for that.

I just use for Web browsing, watching tv/films and note taking. The M1 is already overpowered for what I need. No redesign and don’t need M2, so that’s how I decided on M1
