So I wanted to try out the iOS 6 Beta 2 on my :apple:TV so I could rearrange icons. I don't have a developer account so I got the link from iModZone.

Anyway, when I try to restore the :apple:TV to the new software I get an error saying iTunes could not restore the software with an error code 1611. This happens when I try to restore normally and using 5.1 software.

Should I take it into an Apple Store or do you have any advice? I tried using a different USB cable.

Thanks

Put the apple tv in DFU mode and then restore it, problem solved probably.

what he said, get your ATV on DFU ans restore to the most current firmware

I still get the iTunes error when I restore it after DFU mode. If I take it into an Apple Store, and they try to restore it and get the error, do you think they will just swap it out for a new one?

When the power cord isn't connected, it does not show up in iTunes.

Then you are NOT on DFU mode, you are in Recovery mode..

You need to follow the steps to get into DFU WITHOUT the power cord. Once is on DFU mode it will show up on iTunes

You can search google and youtube for detailed step by step on how to get into DFU mode.

I can't find a guide for the ATV3, but I presume it's the same as the method for the second gen, so I followed the tutorial on this link: http://osxdaily.com/2011/01/30/enter-dfu-mode-on-the-apple-tv-2/

iTunes doesn't come up with a message telling me that it's detected an ATV in DFU mode, I simply can't seem to get it into DFU mode.

All i can tell you is keep trying, getting into the DFU mode is trickier on some ATVs then other, due to many reasons (Battery on the remote, interference, nervous fingers etc). I gotten some ATV that take me up to 10 tries to get into DFU mode.

** iClarify is saying that the power cord should be connected, last time I checked that is "recovery mode" which sometime does't help with those issues. Recovery mode happen after the bootloader is running. But give it a try and see if it works for you.

If all failed take it to the Apple store.

Thank you so much for your support, just got it working! There goes my excuse for trying out the new retina MacBook Pros in the Apple Store

Thanks again ;)
