when I try to install palm on my g4 733 running panther 7b85 I had some serious issues. 4.0 and 4.1 both appeared to finish their installation and then give me an error saying that the installation did not complete successfully. So, I tried again.
Nope

Here is the error message which would appear if I attempted to launch any palm program.

1.pdf

Figuring the installer didn't ask for permissions to install the extensions like the readme said it would, I tried again logged in as root.
Still, no luck

I got the same results with my g3 imac 500.

Any suggestions?

edit: If i could find a copy of the required extension(s) could I just drag them somewhere?

edit2: the image got corupted on my server for some reason:( im fixing it now

LimeLite:

I'm a developer who will be paying for 7b85 when it hits the stores

Yes i did borrow it from a friend

plz no one flame me

The reason I ask is because Panther is a beta. First off, you shouldn't have it. Second, not many people here can help you because not many people have experience with Panther and a palm, and something that doesn't work could very well be an issue with the beta that is resolved in the final version.

Of you borrowed it from a friend, you are not an Apple registered developer and therefore you have gotten what you deserve.

yes panther has some issues, but its no longer beta. This is the version that people will be getting on the 24th.

yes I know its not right, its not like I'm stealing something and losing them money. Get pissed at people on kazaa not someone who is going to pay for the version he is using when it is released.

If it is really such a problem I'l just wait until I own a copy on the 24th and then repost.

if you are gunna get pissed at people "stealing" software, don't get pissed at the people who wann't to see if the gm works right, get pissed at the people giving it out.

Who says we're not pissed at them? It's that we don't usually know who they are.

And like I said above, using unreleased software is its own reward. Like when it blows up and eats your system.

I can't speak for bear, but I'm not "pissed" at you. I'm just saying that when you're using beta software, particularly software that you're not supposed to have, there are going to be issues that with it. The reason apple releases these betas is to give developers a heads up so that they can have software ready for the next release, so there's minimal downtime with software that's not compatible with the latest update. You're trying to sync your palm device, and unless you're creating some sort of palm software, this isn't really an urgent concern, because you're using this Panther build as a regular OS, not as a tool for developing software, which is what it is intended to do.

LimeLite:

You are right to presume that this is for my purposes

This was the first time I installed a 10.3 build to be my primary os.
I figured like this would be resolved in the gm.

I came off sounding to urgent, I will just boot into my old os and wait:(. I will be back at 8:01 on panther day:)

hopefully my build is not the gm and the one that I end up buying will not have any issues

I am now a proud owner of 7b85!!!

The issue was due to stuffit 8.0 :(

I still did have to install it as root though :(

This is known, it seems, to everyone but Palm. All the PDA forums have stated that StuffIt 8 will screw permissions if it extracts a .sit file. The way around this is to use a .sitx file. No problems ten as sitx was built to handle permissions correctly and if you are distributing MacOS X software then I don't see a reason not to be using it.

Of course they could avoid the issue altogether and use .dmg but then that would be smart and we are talking about a big corporation here.
