My 2010 cinema display is still going and I have been using it as an external monitor for my macbook pro. I just got an iMac so I want to move the cinema display to my windows pc I use for work. The cinema display has the mini displayport cable, the pc has hdmi or dual link dvi ports. Can someone direct me to an adapter that should work? the ones I find seem to go the other way or either I am just confused. :)

Thanks for any help.

The search that found it, there seems to be a few more options besides that one.

Thanks but I need one end to be mini displayport female and the other end to be hdmi male. This one appears to be male on both ends. the cable that runs from the cinema display is male ended. this is driving me crazy. :)

Well then you need a video card that has a mini display port on it for the computer you want to connect it to. Or if new enough to have usb c connector that allows video then a box that has a display port that will connect to that. As well I find it hard to believe that cable is permanently attached to the monitor. Who knows perhaps Apple did do it that way, but it should be able to come apart like every other monitor. I have never seen that in the LCD era, at the very start of this computer thing with the cathode ray tube there were monitors that had the cable permanently attached.

lol.

google the 2010 27 inch Cinema Display and be amazed at 3 headed cable that spews forth out of the back of the monitor.

This adapter looks like it might fit the bill. A bit pricey, but cheaper than a new display.
The Q & A doesn't make me think it will definitely work in your situation, but it looks promising.

Do yourself a favor and buy a mini displayport to HDMI *cable*, not an adapter.

For example,
