I have had the 5GB free storage forever. I have an iPhone X, Macbook Pro, and an iMac. I only have ever used the icloud for what I thought was being used to backup and hold my contact list. That's all I really care about. Photos...I upload manually to computer if I really need to. Right now, its at 5GB/5GB. I upgraded to 50GB just now so I can share a photo album with my girlfriend and now it's at 5.4GB/50GB and I cant even see the photos she's uploaded to the album.

On my iPhone under Settings>iCloud>Apps Using iCloud: I have nothing but Photos:ON for JUST the iCloud photo sharing. and also my Contacts: ON.

The bar at the top for the 5.6GB/50GB being used is ALL orange showing documents/data. I can sit here and unlock phone and the space being used up will jump like .1GB each time..

Whats going on??

Do I need to check other devices? I just logged into iCloud.com and checked everything - I have family sharing with my parents for iTunes movie purchases etc. and thats it..its nothing to do with either of their phones is it?

Do you have iCloud Drive enabled on your MBP & iMac?

I need to check on my iMac...i rarely boot it up in OSX anymore since I have been running windows on bootcamp on it.. I just checked this MBP and turned it off. I just have Contacts enabled on the MBP.. Should I do the same on my iMac?

If you have no reason to have it on, then yes. I only use the 5 GB free as well and I was having a similar issue and found out it was “Desktop & Documents Folders,” under “Options” to the right of “iCloud Drive,” under the iCloud settings on my MBP that was using all my space. I don’t need that backed up to iCloud so once I turned that setting off, I was fine.
