There's probably an easy solution to this but I have managed to make it so that all the windows that I minimize just disappear completely and there is no way for me to retreive them except for going into Task manager and maximizing them that way. I just can't figure it out. I was able to just click on them in the task bar is maximize them but I did something strange in the taskbar settings and now when I minimize a window it looks like it zooms into the taskbar, but then disappears.

Last time, you seemed less than pleased when I asked you to provide obvious elaboration to your question, but...

What version of Windows are you using?

Is your task bar set to auto-hide or be visible constantly?

Does it happen to every app or only certain apps?

Did you only modify taskbar settings using the internal controls of Windows, or did you use an additional program that modifies taskbar behavior?

1) I am using Windows XP

2) Dunno, how do I change these settings?

3) Every app that I minimize it happens.

4) I modified the settings using the internal controls.

Thanks so much for your help. :)

You adjust things like auto-hide from the start menu...there's a settings item somewhere for the task bar. It's either directly in the start menu or in the control panel (I know it's in the start menu for Win2k and below...I'm struggling to remember for XP because it has that god-awful revised start menu).

Sorry, I have to ask one more, that I forgot.

So you open a program, and when you minimize it, it disappears from the taskbar. Before you minimized it / when it is visible, is it on the taskbar then, or do you just see no programs on the taskbar at all?

Possible explanations:

Answer is NO (don't see any task buttons): You made the quick launch bar really big and the task bar portion of the bar really small -- in this case, right click on the taskbar and make sure the option to lock it is not selected. Then, somewhere in the middle of the taskbar, there should be a set of little "bumps." You can either double click on them or drag them around to resize the relative size of the quick launch area and the task bar area.

Answer is YES (see task buttons for non-minimized progs): There also is apparently some sort of bug in XP that involves a conflict between the task bar and quick launch. The solution is slightly more complex -- it's detailed in this thread.

See if either of those help?
