I have a 3G, and I tried upgrading the FW from 3.0 to the latest 3.1.4. Originally I had the phone jailbroken and unlocked with 3.0, since I have T-Mobile. I screwed up by restoring and updating through itunes, without using the Pwnage tool and my ipsw. Now my phone is in emergency mode, and itunes says that it has the wrong sim card or something like that. So therefore the phone is probably updated with the newest BB and FW, but I cannot tell since I don't have an AT&T sim. Any suggestions would help. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your screwed hombre. The Dev team says repeatedly "don't update through iTunes if you care about your unlock." Your baseband got upgraded when you updated to the new firmware. No way at this time to unlock it at the current baseband and the Dev team says maybe never. Only advice I can offer is it sounds like it's time to get ATT...

Newest firmware is 3.1.2.

If you updated to official Apple firmware you did indeed loose your jailbreak but worse you lost your unlock for good.

Your T-mobile sim will no longer work

You can downgrade or upgrade the firmware and JB to any version, but you can no longer unlock the phone as your baseband has been updated.

There is one remote possibility, re-JB your phone (get a tutorial from iClarified) as it seems you have no idea what you are doing. Once your phone is JB, and has Cydia on it, install Fuzzyband. About 10% of the 3G phones had bootloader 5.08 on them (the older ones) and if you are one of the lucky few, Fuzzyband can downgrade your baseband.

Other than that, you are out of luck.

Here is an image of Fuzzyband, this person is out of luck as they do not have bootloader 5.08, very few phones do. Don't get your hopes up too high.

dhlizard,

yeah i was thinking of JBing it first, but then i don't have a at&t sim. is there a way to hack into it without needing a official carrier's sim?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A400 Safari/528.16)

What I would do is try and trade it through craigslist or something with someone to hopefully have a working phone. Maybe someone want a black/white iPhone if they have the opposite color? Might want to trade your 16 gig for a 8? Better than nothing ..
