Hi all,

Please help - restoring SMS messages from iTunes BackUp!

I have been using iPhone since 2008 (3, 3GS, 4, 4S, 5S) and I always used Jailbreak (if it was possible).

My wife has 2 phones and 2 phone numbers - old one (Nokia) since 2007 and new one (iPhone 5S) since 2014. Ever since she started using iPhone 5S the old Nokia is no longer in everyday use (she carries it only for "just in case scenarios").

We exchanged SMS messages with both and I had full correspondence with her on my iPhone (for both her numbers).

Today I discovered that all SMS messages from her old number (and old phone - Nokia) are gone from my iPhone!

I downloaded the tryout "iBackup Extractor" and checked with my iTunes BackUps - the SMS conversations are stored in one my old(er) iTunes BackUps (at least that is OK)

So... what can I do to recover that lost conversations (all of it since it ended in 2014 when she started using iPhone 5S and new number) to my iPhone and, at the same time, keep the new conversations (with her new number from her new iPhone 5S)?

Is that even possible?

What programs do I need for that?

Thanks immensely in advance!

Hi all,

Help yourself... ;)

I bought the "Backuptrans iPhone SMS Transfer" for 20$ and saved 7+ years (and 4000+) of SMS messages!

I wholeheartedly recommend this program because it can also move and merge SMS messages (to and from PC, to an from iTunes BackUp, to and from iPhone to iPhone etc.)!!!

What a crazy coincidence, my mother's iPhone 6 needed to be restored and she was very agitated that Apple had no way of restoring only the messages. I still don't understand how Apple hasn't built in that feature yet. Needless to say I googled for the best solution and came upon BackUpTrans (and their 50 different apps for nearly the same thing???), I figured what the heck since if it doesn't work I'll just do a charge back on my Visa.

Low and behold, it could not have been simpler. The interface kind of sucks but, within a few minutes, all my mother's messages (7900!) were restored on a freshly restore iPhone 6 running iOS 8.2. Crazy!
