Hi All,

I just updated my OS X from Yosemite to Sierra.

If I try to install any app, the normal window for 'trying to make changes' requests the password *BUT* I am unable to type anything in the password box.

I have checked in Word & Chrome that I *can* type,( the keyboard works) but when the install dialog box appears then I cannot type anything.

Please help
TIA

What happens if you go to the users & groups preference pane
and
look at your account?

Right "under" your account name (list on the left) it should tell you whether you are an "admin" or a "regular" (non-administrative) user.

Which is it?

I am unable to type anything in the password box, but it shows I am Admin (?)

You might also try a USB keyboard (if it's a MacBook)
or
A DIFFERENT keyboard (if it's an iMac, Mini, etc.).

Ok..I think this worked.
Rather, what I realised is that the MBP keyboard was working all along, just the cursor didn't move; plus I was getting the beach ball so I thought it wasn't working at all.

Many thanks Fishrrman, DeltaMac (restart didn't work, but thanks) and MarkC426 for your advice.

Problem seems to be solved for now. [ Ah..updating..the perils :p : I <3 My MBP ]

If it happens again, try using the trackpad instead of an external mouse—particularly if it's a Bluetooth mouse.
