I literally have my life on this drive, please help.

It was working fine until about a week ago when it randomly disconnected from the computer. Finder displayed the "Don't disconnect this without ejecting" warning, I plugged it back in, and it will mount and Disk Utility verifies it, but whenever I try to open it, it won't work. Once I got the files to show up in Finder that were on the drive, but it disconnected once that happened.

The drive itself sounds weird. It is whirring, higher in pitch, then lower, then higher, then lower, etc.. Not like it usually would sound.. It sounds like it's struggling to work. This worries me. Is this a sign that there's something wrong?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I don't want this disk to die! Please help.
