Hi,

I purchase an iphone off ebay to replace my wife's which was stolen. I had unlocked that one to work with t-mobile.

Now for this one, I keep on getting a 1600 error or 21 error message.

Here are my settings: 10.5.5, itunes 8

Here's what I've tried:

Using recovery and dfu modes.
Using the previous custom ipsw fie from the old iphone but still get the messages.
I've used pwnage 2.0.2 with 5A347 ipsw as well as pwnage 2.1 with the 2.1 ipsw, but still get error messages.
But no matter what, I can still manage to restore the iphone to the original 5A347 ipsw. That seems to save me from a nervous breakdown!!

Do you have any ideas. Please help!

Thank you!

I will first try to check if it works fine, by recovering it with iTunes to factory settings and then following the instructions on this website:

www.hackthatphone.com

NOTE: some previously unlocked iPhones suffered some permanent changes with some old methods, so be sure that the procedure that you are following will apply to your current iPhone condition.

Hi,

Thanks so much for you time and replies.

The iphone is not a 3g.

As for now, when I turn on the iphone, I get the message that I need to have an unlocked and valid sim card. Then when I use a previous AT&T sim from our old iphone, it just goes into emergency phone call mode. I can't even access to the ipod/wifi features. Any idea how to bypass that?

When I connect the iphone to itunes, it asks me to activate the sim.

Please help with any suggestions.

Thanks!

Wow, I really need help...

I have no idea what is going on. I keep getting the 1600 error message when I try to restore with any other .ipsw than the iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Custom_Restore.ipsw file.

Please help with any ideas, my wife is definitely feeling down :(

Thanks!

Forget all what you had done.
Start from scratch.
Restore it to original apple firmware without activating it, then jailbrake and unlock it following the instructions posted on the hackthatphone website, follow step by step and you will be fine.

Hi,

Thank you. I definitely need reassurance. And each time i do this I get nervous!

I think I have followed those instructions but I am still getting to the same point - 1600 error. Then I reset the iphone to the 5A347 software and then it goes into itunes into the "Welcome to your new iPhone page" saying that it needs to be activated (this is with an old at&t card inside).

Any ideas?

I just noticed you wrote: "Restore it to original apple firmware without activating it." How would I go about that?

Hi,

I am a little hesitant to do this, but do you think it may help to do a restore with the latest 2.1 (I suppose after the restores that I have done, it must have 2.0 software on it) iphone software? Then will I be able to proceed with unlocking it?

Thanks!

Hi,

Here's an update: I updated the software to 2.1, with an update from itunes. No problems there.

Then I downloaded Pwnage 2.1 from the guide, followed the instructions completely, and received an error of 21. That was in recovery mode.

I will try to do the same but in the other restore (not sure if it is dfu) mode.

Then, I'm pretty much at a loss.

Kindly help if you can!
Thanks!
