Please help with live audio stream

I just made the switch to an iMac G5, and I'm having trouble connecting to an asx live stream on this site (click on "Pour nous ecouter" next to the ticker):
http://www.cjpx.ca/index.htm

I have WMP9 for OSX downloaded, and it comes up but can't connect. It's not a problem with the website server as it works on my old PC laptop. I tested a couple of NPR radio stations and they do work on the Mac, so I guess it can't be an issue with all asx. I also tried connecting directly from WMP rather than the website in case it was a problem coming from Safari, but got the same thing.

I'm originally from Montreal (now in the US) and this radio station just finally started live streaming...so I *really* want it to work on the Mac. I have many other audio applications (QT, Real, VLC and MPlayer) but none seem to support asx. Any help would be extremely appreciated...thanks!

Check for Windows Media Playerupdates.
Perhaps you need to block the pop-up blocker (the site might launch WMP9 as a pop-up.)
Perhaps you need to use IE5 to properly launch it.
Set WMP9 as the default media player for asf and asx.
Just some thoughts.

I want to see an alternative player.

I don't belive WM9 for mac supports all the codecs that the windows version does, thus some streams wont work while others will... EX: Microsoft had their WinHEC keynote streamed live, it would refuse to play on the mac but fine on the pc... while other keynotes (live or archived) would play.

Do I know how to fix it? nope... as it seems if the codec doesnt automatically download that it simply doesnt exist (though you may be able to get a 3rd party one somewhere, I dunno)

I can play it on my Mac, so do what I proposed above.
The pop-up blocker can't be it.

Try this: Open WMP9, Click File, Click Open URL (comand U), and type in : http://mmst://wm.cam.org/cjpx

Remove WMP9 and reinstal it from the link provided above.

Also, make sure that you have enfough bandwidth, and that it is clean. Sometimes media players choke when buffering to much information. This streem is best played at a minimum of 20kbps.

Lastly, if your using a moderated ISP (i.e. a WiFi HotSpot), they sometimes only allow a certain number of livestreams.

It looks like the only non-twitchy (non-hacker type) asx decoder for OSX is WMP9.

Send an email to the website with your problem and your solution(s). They will likely add it the website.

Ok, I downloaded Internet Explorer - still no dice. The mmst address didn't work either. I'm using DSL, I don't think the ISP is a problem since it'll work on the PC.

At least now I know it *can* work with a Mac, I just have to figure out how.

PS - how do I get my Mac to quit prompting me if I want to disconnect or stay connected to the internet?

When I click on this link http://mmst://wm.cam.org/cjpx it launches regardless of the browser.

Did you reinstall WM9?

Here are what my WM9 settings are:

• Prefrences
  *Network settings
  -Use default buffering
  *Protocols checked
  Multicast, UDP, TCP, HTTP,No Proxy

  *Security
  Non checked

And for OSX

• Networking
  System Prefrences
  -> Networking
  -->Built-in ethernet (should be green)

• OSX Firewall
  System Prefrences
  -> Shareing
  -->Firewall
  --->iTunes Music Shareing (3689) checked
  *(or click 'stop firewall' to see if that helps)

Sigh - nope, I reinstalled and I have the exact settings you listed. Arrgh.

Could this possibly be a Tiger problem?

Tiger is a no go.
2 problems.
Tiger will not natively unpack a .sitx file.
You will need StuffIt Expander
Second, even when WMP9 is not allowed to properly connect to the streem. It looks like 10.4 blocks it, even with the firewall off.

People are Complaining on Micorsoft Newes Groups- so lots of people are expierenceing the issue.

Report it to Microsoft-(800) MICROSOFT (642-7676)- They really encourage people to call. Weird. Or use this online form.

What I posted inApple OSX Tiger FeedbackStreams previously available through WM9 in 10.3.x are no longer working. iTunes and QT do not support all the media formats that are needed to use the internet to its fullest.
This problem is showing up all over the net. Check out Microsoft’s Windows Media Player Forums. Also a lot of Mac support forums (notable MacRumors) have people complaining about this compatibility issue. Please see this thread:[not sited here] I do computer troubleshooting. I understand the need to support iTunes and QuickTime. Mac users do at every chance they get, but sometimes alternative media players (and services) are needed. I support Mac when ever I get a chance, but I have a hard time pitching “switching” or “sticking” with Mac when it looks like Windows machines support more multi-media formats. If you would like particulars as to which stream formats need to be added to QT or what stream formats seem not to work for WMP9 in OS 10.4.0, please contact me.

Thanks Eniregnat. I do have StuffIt Expander (which I used to install my WMP) but it looks like Tiger has indeed blocked the ability to connect to this stream. I'll contact both Apple and Microsoft this weekend, hopefully this can be fixed with future updates of either Tiger or WMP.

What about other stream sources for clasical music. iTunes, , Live 365 (some are free), Internet Free Radio, ShoutCast. Just some ideas. All, except for some of the links listed in IFR work in OSX Tiger.

Type in Quebec here if it has to Quebequa. No clasical Shoutcast out of Quebec though.

Semi-OT, WMP seems to work mostly for me, but I have not been able to get it to play content as embedded in Safari 2, instead of launching the content in an WMP window. Anyone got that working?

The formatting was odd, the charcters appear as they were sent.
