I have done a search already and it seems there arent many people having problems with tethering, just alot of people talking about getting it working. So I have a jailbroken 3g on FW 3.0 on ATT network and have a mobileconfig from help.benm.at. I originally tried tethering on T mobile and the phone showed up with the blue band and said it was tethering my computer (running 10.5.7) but safari didnt have a connection. I thought it was a tmobile issue so I put my ATT sim back in, deleted the tmobile settings, reinstalled the mobileconfig for ATT and it still is not working. In fact I dont even get the blue band anymore and it seems it is having a a problem even making the bluetooth connection. The phone says it is not connected. I have tried usb and the computer doesnt even recognize that it is plugged in. Can anyone help me out here. I'm afraid I %ucked something up.

have you got itunes installed on the computer you are trying to tether from? You need this installed so it can use the correct drivers for the iphone.
if you are jailbroken download PDAnet from cydia and create an ad-hoc wi-fi connection and use that. No need for itunes and drivers then.

I do have iTunes installed (8.2 or whatever...the newest) but I noticed that iTunes kept opening up and I kept closing it. Does that have anything to do with this problem? Also it seems that bluetooth never connects with the computer. I set up a device from the computer and my phone pops up with a box to enter the code shown on my computer, and the computer says it connected but the phone says its not connected. I know this sounds confusing and I really use pdanet anyway, but I just don't like having something that is supposed to work not work, you know what I mean.

I made sure my first post was something that would help the community ( prepaid T-mobile sidekick plan working with iphone..unlimited text, tethering, we, etc. for a buck a day, no att, no contract) so I would really appreciate the help here. I had tethering working fine but today it just stopped. It shows the blue band but it won't assign an IP address to my computer.
Ok This is what I did. I preface this with the fact that I am on Windows XP and a Newbie. I have a 3GS iPhone. On the Windows computer I downloaded PDANet desktop. On the iPhone I downloaded PDANet through Cydia. I was then able to tether using the USB no Problem.
Next I wanted to set up the Ad Hoc connection. In Windows I went into my wireless network properties and set up the connection.
1. Wireless Network Connection Properties will appear. Click Wireless Networks tab, here I tick Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings. After that click Advanced button.
2. Advanced window will appear. Select Computer-to-computer (ad hoc) networks only option. Click Close.
Note: Dont tick Automatically connect to non-preferred networks in order to ease the configuration.
3. After that, click Add to add new ad hoc wireless network.
4. Name your ad hoc network, I used home-adhoc. Try to use open authentication without encryption first.
Now on the iPhone go into wi-fi and click other. Use the same name of the ad hoc network you created. I used home ad hoc. Don't use any security until its tested.
I then went into wireless settings and conected non my new adhoc wireless network that now displays in the list. Once connected I launched my browser and was online.
