Any wine command I try to run, even wineboot, results in 1-2 minutes of waiting and the unsatisfying feedback of
err:process:__wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

sounds like you have a bad install... how did you install it? Did you try running it only in Terminal, or in a XQuartz xterm?

Originally, I installed it by following the instructions provided by http://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/ and it worked all fine and dandy for like four months, but a couple of days ago it started doing this. I then preceded to uninstall it and reinstall it the same way, but nothing changed. I only tried running it through terminal.

did you recently upgrade the OS?

XQuartz died from a bug that showed its head in 10.7.5 and 10.8.2 when using OpenGL/Direct3D in Wine. Make sure you have the latest version of XQuartz installed.

Thank you doh123 , I reinstalled XQuartz and it's working fine again. Your help is greatly appreciated :D
