Please join in giving feedback to Apple about Mac Pro (late 2013) HDMI 2.0 update

As we all know the Mac Pro (late 2013) came with HDMI 1.4 ports. HDMI 1.4 is identical to HDMI 2.0 hardware wise, and more and more manufacturers are issuing firmwares to update 1.4 ports to 2.0.

Currently, Apple is about to release 10.9.3 which will add support for 4K/60Hz over DisplayPort. But so far there is no indication that 4k/60Hz HDMI will happen.

So I want to encourage everyone to join me in sending feedback to the Mac Pro team that this is something we really want, as none of the 4K televisions come with Display Ports.

Tell them you would like a firmware update for Mac Pro (late 2013) to update the HDMI ports from 1.4 to 2.0 and add support for 4k/60Hz over HDMI.

Is it possible to update the nMP HDMI via firmware, or will it require new hardware? If the latter, I'm guessing a TB2 to HDMI2 dongle is probably the only option - which wouldn't be the end of the world.

as none of the 4K televisions come with Display Ports.

I hope the latest Mac Pro and retina MacBook Pro both have their HDMI ports upgraded to 2.0 via firmware to support 4K @ 60Hz. But want to point out that Panasonic 4K televisions come with a DisplayPort connection, so there is one option for certain.

MBP to HDMI adapter cable? I think you mean mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, but this still won´t enable 4k/60Hz on 10.9.3.

The specifications of HDMI 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 are identical in hardware. The only difference is software. Several TV manufacturers are updating current HDMI 1.4 ports to 2.0 via firmware updates.

There are no reasons why Apple could not do the same. If they update the next Mac Pro with hdmi 2.0 ports, they are doing a great disservice to current owners who have waited forever to get the new Mac Pro.

There is always a reason for everything. Just because it is not made public does not mean that there is not a reason.
