Please refresh my memory about .me accounts

Will these e mail accounts continue indefinitely? Or will they end in 2012? Also, can anyone someone get a new one now? I've had mine forever and I am hoping to not have to get a new e mail address in the future.

For the sake of avoiding any confusion, iCloud email addresses are me.com, NOT .me

Yes, they will continue working and will remain the same even after June 2012. Indefinitely? Only time can tell. Registrations start this Wednesday, October 12th when iCloud officially launches to the public.

iCloud also uses @me.com addresses. You will have the opportunity to migrate your MobileMe data, including this address, to iCloud. Would reccomend backing everything up before you do, all my contacts ran away during the beta migration.

is it better to wait a month or so to avoid the initial rush and to see what bugs need ironing out? would hate to lose my data - esp my calendar and contacts

I don't know about MM but is there an export button? that way just download the file and save it on your computer, as for waiting to move your data then chances are the servers will be pretty hot tomorrow, so if you don't mind waiting a day or 2 then chances are the process would go smoother and certainly faster.

Open iCal, File menu, Then Export iCal Archive.
