Another reason to go with the XBox One over the PS4. Plex is coming as a 1st party app.

Tyson Edwards, posting in the official Plex forums, broke the news:
"I would like to make you all aware of some very exciting news...
Microsoft has approved the development of a Plex Client for Xbox One. We have been granted membership into ID@Xbox specifically for the development and eventual release of Plex for Xbox One. This is in no way saying that it will be coming next week, or even next month, but starting tonight I will be applying my first test code to an Xbox One."

Very interesting, although I already have Plex in my Mac Mini connected to my TV.

Hope the PS4 also gets it.

Will it require an Xbox Live gold account like everything else Xbox?

This is one of the reasons I parted ways with my 360. I don't mind subscribing to use their online services, but it really rubs me the wrong way when you start requiring me to have said subscription to access a separate service that I already pay for (Netflix, Hulu, etc).

You didn't post this in the Console Gaming section? :D

Also why pick one over the other? I have both

Nah, didn't post it in the console section, since it was software that is used with PC's and mobile OS's.

And nice setup BTW. Does the voice control feature on the One work over there, or do you have to change the vocals to American English?

And I'm still rocking my Super Nintendo cause I love me 16 bit graphics. :D

Yeah works fine, I mostly use it to switch apps though given the XB ui needs a bit of work, it's cumbersome to navigate without it honestly.

I think it's the non-english speaking countries that didn't have the voice control at launch and I'm in the UK.

Exactly ;) on both counts. Personally both consoles are great, if I only had an Xbox 1 I would miss out on amazing looking titles like Infamous Second Son, and vice versa if I only had a PS4 I'd miss out the likes of Titanfall & Dead Rising 3....

And yep, this should be in the console section..

Nope... Doesn't work in Ireland :( :(

Crazy.. If I cross into Northern Ireland it will allow voice controls but because I'm in the South it doesn't...

Same with the TV input stuff....

If I change location to UK in settings it will work but then as soon as I use Xbox live or music / store etc.. I get a horrible warning screen about my account location and my Xbox one location and it basically forces you to change it back or threat of a Xbox live ban.

Its so annoying when politics and regional business management gets in the way of the consumer enjoyment. :(

I have heard of PLEX somewhat but is it like XBMC?

I am a big fan of XBMC and use it daily so this might push me to get the XB1 if its comparable in the future.

Very similar, at least in functionality. In fact, I believe it was originally a fork of XBMC.

Plex == iOS; XBMC == Android

Plex is, as the person above me mentioned, a fork of XBMC, at least its front-end is. There are two parts to Plex, the client (the app that actually shows the content, the front-end) and the Media Server. You need to have the Media Server installed on either a NAS or computer, wherever you store your content because that's what scans through and scrapes all of your content. One other benefit (I don't believe XBMC supports it) is on-the-fly transcoding by the Media Server. This is what allows you to stream from a Plex Server to a phone.

I guess the simple way to put it is, Plex is very easy to setup and use and has more functionality out of the box. XBMC requires more setting up and tweaking to your own liking.
