Stupid me was BBMing while trying to plug in my headphones with my pheripherals, and I accidentally pushed it (not very hard) into the USB port. The tip of the headphone jack connected with the little connector ball at the bottom of the USB port. The screen went black and I instantly hit the power button on instinct, so I don't know if it shut off.

Did I do something very bad, or is that normal? I'm not sure if that's even considered an electric shock or what.

Try to turn it on. If you can't then you should take it to the Apple Store. I'm assuming you have a 2010 MBA w/Warranty or an older version with AppleCare.

Yes it turned back on again right away. But I think something short circuited when I plugged it in wrong, and turned off the unit.

Everything seems to be back to normal now, I just don't know if I did some serious damage though!
