I'm a big fan of listening to internet radio, and I will go to some particular websites and try and listen, but it always says you need the plugins to be able to listen.

How do I get round this problem?

Are they Windows Media Player files? If so, you can download Flip4Mac

Just download VLC. It doesn't require any plugins, any extensions; it just works. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Yeah i forgot about VLC it's better than QuickTime and Windows Media Player
