Hello dear mac community!

I am writing this on behalf of a good friend, experiencing problems with a Powermac Dual g4 (1.6?), recently upgraded to tiger.

the story goes soemthing like this:

her computer was working fine, and then she upgraded to tiger.

first we did not do a clean install. many many problems happened.

next we did a backup of her files, including her programs, and then we did a clean install. the finder works just fine.

the programs do not.

illustrator, 10.1 or something relatively old, photoshop, all freeze her computer.

the finder doesn't seem to crash unless she is running a program, could it be that her programs are not the most recent?

could it be her ram?

any suggestions?

thanks,

r.

Which programs consistently crash? Is it just Illustrator and Photoshop or anything else?

Have you tried repairing permissions?

Try making a new account on the computer and using those applications. Do the problems happen in the new account as well?

thanks for your response!

permissions repaired --yes... ran mac janitor also...

programs that are crashing are: photoshop 7 (always while working), illustrator 10 (likewise), and once with safari....

will try the users thing....

one thing: i put her backup on a folder on her desktop. could there be an intererence between files? once she couldn't open illustrator, i tried the one in her app folder, it didn't work. i tried the one in the backup folder on her desktop, and that worked. there was some sort of conflict. could it be related?

thanks!
