I was trying to apply a Jailbreak and change the Boot Pinapple Icon and the Steve Jobs Reboot Icon, but no matter what I do it tells me the png file I am trying to use is not a valid png file. Does anyone know an app I can use to change a normal icon into a png file I can use.

Also can you change the boot icon after you jailbreak your phone?

Just add a ".png" at the end of the name of the icon you want to use. Your wonderful Mac OS X will convert whatever file it was to a PNG file.

.png also has to be less than 100k and 320 X 480 or less.

Post the file you are trying to use here and we will tell you why it isn't working. There's no way we can know without looking at the file.

And PwnageTool will not allow you to change the boot logo without re-jailbreaking, but the new version of Redsn0w is supposed to. You just deselect the options you don't need (like installing Cydia).
