I completely forgot what happened during the development of this update. It feel like years ago since we finished it. Hopefully Apple will not take so long to approve the next update.
FYI, Allan is going on vacation next month but we already have the next three updates mapped out and are working on them simultaneously. It will not effect our schedule in anyway. I think I am going on a 4 day vacation with my Wife but the rest of the time during Allans vacation will probably be sepnt on our new game, the art style is coming along really well and I think it will have an awesome feel to it once we are done.
About the Fire update, this update has a lot of functionality in it, we give the Pygmies 3 pieces of wood (and yes, it falls from the sky like the fishing rod), the Pygmies them carry the wood to the bon fire and stack them up so you can hit it will a lightning bolt to catch it on fire. Then you can cook fish over the fire or even roast a Pygmy over the fire like it's a marshmallow (the marshmallowed sacrifice). you can use the cooked pygmy like a mini rock and throw it around or hit the other Pygmies with it. You can also burn the fish if you hold it over the fire too long (its cool to see the Pygmy eat a burnt fish). This update will also have Feint 2.0 installed. It functions a lot better than the old version of feint that we were using. We will be using it to record your achievements in your Feint profile. This version also has moderation and abuse reporting so we can finally clean up the chat rooms.
Technically, not that much to report, the update was fairly straight forward. Looks like the 3.0 firmware is a bit slower than 2.0 so we will have to find a way to do more optimization this week. I think its the push alerts, we had a similar issue a while ago with feint contacting its server in the background and thats what the push alerts are doing as well. If we can reduce cpu, it won't trip up our render thread as much.
We have some cool updates coming up, the next one will be called "Flipping the Bird" and the ones after that will contain an actual mini game (not like the micro games from the last update) and we will be incorporating a new feature of Feint that is being developed next week... Challenges, you'll be able to challenge a friend to any one of our mini or micro games we have in the app. So you'll be able to send a coconut bounce challenge to a friend, you'll have a minute to get your best score, then your friend will receive the challenge and have a minute to beat your score. I think this will be an awesome addition and finally give us a lot of depth to the app. It will also use 3.0 push alerts to tell you that a friend has challenged you when Pocket God isnt open.
Speaking of 3.0, we found a way to use the 3.0 features without having to require the 3.0 firmware. So, from now on, all our updates will be compatible with 2.2 but, if you have 3.0 firmware, it will allow you to use things like the push alerts. So, its up to you, you'll be able to stay at 2.2 and just not get push updates.
