You guys were a great help back when i was having problems on the appstore with BoxOffice (ne 'Now Playing').

I thought i'd let you know that i've now integrated Netflix support deeply into Now Playing so that you can manage all your netflix info, as well as do cool things like add movies that are currently in theaters to your Netflix queue.

On top of this, i also have a dedicated Netflix app called PocketFlix. I personally think it's the best Netflix app (though i am biased :) ). The nice things about PocketFlix is that the money i make off it goes entirely to being able to license more sources of content for my applications. So, if you like these apps, and would like to support them, then please download a copy if you get a chance.

Here are some pix to help whet your appetite:

Cyrus,

Thank you for all of your work and dedication. I purchased a copy of PocketFlix to assist you in your efforts. Please keep updating the apps so that the products will always be of top-notch quality. I'd like to be able to play the Instant Queue movies on my iPhone someday!!

Have a great day!

Hi Cyrus. I've had Now Playing since the beginning when it was BoxOffice, and I enjoy it immensely! Thanks.

Just a question: What's the difference between the Netflix support in Now Playing and PocketFlix? It doesn't look like there's anything different, other than Now Playing has a bunch MORE stuff, and is free, while PocketFlix just has the Netflix management, and is $1.99.
I don't have an issue with paying for something, and would gladly pay for Now Playing (got a PayPal donation link?) -- but it seems odd that you're offering your two apps this way, unless PocketFlix has a lot more going for it than meets the eye?
I don't want to pay for PocketFlix if it just duplicates functionality (too many apps on my phone -- gotta keep them to a minimum!), and I'm wondering why most people would pay for it too if Now Playing is available for free and does the same thing and more.
I'm only asking this 'cuz I'm curious. I think you should be paid for making great apps, but at the moment it just seems like an odd way of going about it...

How cool with that be? :D
Of course, I don't see anything like this happening on the iPhone for quite some time.... :(

I'd love to be able to offer that. The moment that Netflix allows that, i'll have it available :)

In the meantime, let me know about anything else that you'd actually like.

PocketFlix will likely diverge and have better features. (of course, bug fixes will go into both.

However, right now, they're the same.

No. That's an accurate appraisal. However, if you want to donate, simply buy a copy of PocketFlix and leave a good rating for it. You can then feel free to delete it if you want to just use NowPlaying.

Think of PocketFlix as teh donation mechanism for NowPlaying. Apple won't allow donationware, so this is my workaround unfortunately.

Think of it as simply donating to future improvements for the apps. I use the money i make with PocketFlix to license new content and improve on features. So, even if you don't use it, you're helping out (just as if you paypal'ed me). Also, more good reviews means more downloads, means a better source of sustainable income for improving my apps.

If you didn't know, I just completed the review for this on whatsoniphone.com

Keep up the great work!
I did know. And i sent you a message asking if you'd review PocketFlix as well :)

For people that want a streamlined and efficient Netflix manager, i'd like them to know about that app.

Cheers!

I'm not sure if I have received this. Check your pm.

Have you heard even a whisper about Netflix working on offering (eithr directly or via 3rd-party apps like yours) their Instant Watch capability on the iPhone?

Best Movie app bar none!!! And it does DVD releases and Netflix and so so much more!

Great app. Only thing I'd like to see added to the netflix part is the ability to change a movie in my queue from Blu-ray to DVD and vise-versa. Sometimes I start with movie in the Blu-ray format but the wait time is too long so I switch to DVD, would be great to be able to do that on the phone.

Alrighty! I'll add that in the future!

Cyrus:

Quick question, between the two applications.

Can you outline, the major differences between using Pocketflix and Now Playing Netflix management?

I want to focus the review on specific items on the application. In my opinion, (and I hope not) pocketflix isn't just a port of standalone netflix management application from Now Playing.

One of the biggest things about Now Playing that is great about it is that it's two application in one. You knock out the standalone Netflix application competition as well as Movie query applications.

Seriously, why have two different applications when you can have one (that works amazingly) that incorporates both applications.

Looking forward from hearing from you about this. Yes, I can go into each application and review them and compare apples to apples but I want to see how or what you were thinking.

sure. Could you send me your email? Thanks!

Also, it's worth pointing out that 'Now Playing' is the port, not PocketFlix. Cheers!

Do not support this fraud. Look at his PhoneFlicks app on iTunes. Take a look at the reviews. All 200 done from Dec. 30-31, 5 stars, and clicking their profile... they ALL reviewed the same 2-3 apps made by this developer. He self rates his own apps with tons of accounts.

I actually bought PocketFlicks due to the "reviews", and the app sucks. Ratings done within the app don't even update on Netflix.com, it's useless.

Contacted Apple support and told them about this, and they issued me a refund. Next time I'll know to check reviews more carefully.

Almost bought this because I'm not really happy with iphlix. I'll pass now

Actually, this is because i asked my customers if they could review the app after the last update. I sent out this email to them and many of them responded:

Hi XXXXXXXXX,

Thanks for getting back to me!

The following is a promo code for my Netflix app 'PocketFlicks': ~~~~~~~~~~~

With this promo code you can get the app for free (instead of $1.99).

It would be fantastically helpful to me if you could download the app and either rate it or review it here: link.

By doing this you help me get new customers, which helps me out a ton!

Thanks so much!

I take customer support and help very seriously, and my valued customer have showed their appreciation for this by helping rate my apps highly based on the experience they've gotten.

This is a bug with the Netflix.com ratings server. It's an issue they know about and are working on. I'm sorry you've run into it (as it often clears up after a while). I'm working on a mitigating approach to this (basically by retrying the change a few times to see if it will go through), but that work isn't complete yet.
Contacted Apple support and told them about this, and they issued me a refund. Next time I'll know to check reviews more carefully.
You could have just contacted me about this. I would have gladly issued you the refund as well. I've done this for other customers if they were unhappy.

That's why there is a 'contact me' link directly in the app.

I'm happy to give you a promo code (if i have any left), or i'll just refund you the cost. That way you can make the determination for yourself. Let me know what you think.

And your customers by some magic account never reviewed any other products and every single one of them has only reviewed Now Playing and that comic application of yours?
There are a few cases here. Yes, instances where customers have not reviewed anything else, but have reviewed my app because i asked them to. I work hard on helping out people who email me, and in exchange i often ask if they'll leave a review for me.

The other are cases that i guess you could take issue with. Specifically that i might ask a friend to help out by reviewing my apps (and they help me out with nice ratings for all of them). However, there really are only a few of these, and they're from people who *do* use my apps, and *want* to help me out. I don't ask for false reviews. Though i will admit that i probably get better reviews from these people beacuse they're biased toward me as a friend.

Another reason for this is that on that other sites i visit (like arstechnica.com) i've explicitly asked the community to help me out by trying out and reviewing my apps. This can lead to a large group helping to support me because they like my apps and want to help one of their fellow members. An example of that is here: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/8300945231/m/267009862041/p/1

Finally, i will definitely admit that i have reviewed my apps with my own account. But i honestly think they're very good, so i have no problem with that :)
Please... you've just lost all credibility to me
I can see that. Perhaps I've been more aggressive than you'd like in getting people to review my apps. I'm not sure what you'd like from me at this point. You've gotten a refund, so i guess you're square on the money side. I've already stated that i am going to try to mitigate the ratings/error issue that you've run into. And i've tried to address your issues about the reviews on the appstore. Hopefully that's enough.

BTW, when my next version of PocketFlicks releases, i will again ask customers i've interacted with if they can resubmit their review to count against hte latest version. That will cause another large spike to occur. I view this as a completely acceptable way to do things. If you disagree, let me know and i will consider alternatives.
