Is there a reason why one podcast would download slower than others? Some 1 hour podcasts download in a few seconds and some take up to ten minutes.

It all depends! Do share the Internet connection with others in your household? how popular in the Podcast you are download? Are others hitting that sever the same time as you? How old is your Internet router?

Along this line, Apple does not actually host the podcasts, the creator is responsible for hosting the physical file. So if they are having server issues or connectivity problems...

For example, here's a snippet of what's stored in the Podcasts app's database for an episode of "WTF" on where the file is actually downloaded from:

Code:
'Episode 1040 - Kurt Andersen',NULL,'http://traffic.libsyn.com/wtfpod/WTF_-_EPISODE_1040_KURT_ANDERSEN.mp3?dest-id=14434'

I saw some slowness this week, especially on Monday(?), chalked it up to some sort of localized network "outage", as some things were loading quickly, others not as fast, others slowwww. Then again, saw a headline today that local internet speeds are significantly down due to everyone home and hammering away on their interwebs.
