iPhone Podcast App with reliable chronological playback? (Play episode. 1, 2, 3, etc.)

I listen dramatic fictional podcasts (i.e. Limetown, Homecoming), so I need an app that can easily play podcasts in 'broadcast' order. Ideally, I'd subscribe to a podcast, play S1E1, and it would then continue to play episodes 2, 3, etc.

Apple Podcasts can do this, but if I move away from my current podcast to listen to another show, then return, it defaults back to the most recent episode, meaning that I need to scroll back through the episode list an manually find where I left off. Can this be configured so it remembers my position in each podcast?

Overcast has something called smart playlists, but I'll be damned if I can get it to perform this simple function: when adding a podcast to a smart playlist and setting it to 'oldest to newest,' it ONLY shows the most recent episode. I'd have though it would populate the list with every available episode, starting with episode 1.

Anyone find an app that readily does this? Thanks.

Some podcast apps that have quite advanced filter and sort options in playlist (for either one or more podcasts) which are:
- iCatcher! Podcast Player (2.99 euro)
- Downcast (2.99 euro)
- Pocket Casts (free)

Possibly one of these has that option. Pocket Casts is free, the other two are paid (which I both bought in the past and I still use iCatcher on a daily basis). I do however need to check it out if the functionality you ask exists.

Thanks. I'm looking at Pocket Casts now, and there's a setting that allows you to "Group" podcasts by season. Haven't tested, but this seem like exactly what I'm looking for.

With Pocketcasts you can sort how podcasts are played, you can move them around and play them in any order you want. Just download and click on up next then you can sort them.
