Podcasts not auto deleting

This could be related to ios12 though I uses pb's.

Is there any reason as to why my played Podcasts aren't auto deleting.
Only noticed recently when I'm advertising hundreds of previously played Podcasts.
The option to auto delete played episodes has always been checked.

Thankfully I since established each individual podcast has their own settings.
I since chose only keep most recent.
At least I now have 'you've caught up'

This is addition to ios12 settings that allegedly delete played podcasts.

Yeah, mine used to be fine until about two months ago. Now I have hundreds. Annoying.
