Hi,

I have limited storage and usually just play Podcasts rather then download them, on iOS 10 the Podcast app would automatically play the next Podcast when one has finished. But on 11 even if I enable "play in sequential order" or do anything else with the settings for a particular podcast, it wont play the next one.

This is a real pain for news podcasts that might only be 5 minutes a piece, is this a bug or am I doing something wrong ?.

6th Gen iPod touch 16gb
iOS 11.0

Thanks in advance

That is an odd bug. You might look into alternative options as I also suggested in this other topic in the iOS App section.

Great (paid once) options are:
I'm currently using iCatcher and love it with all of it's features. Pocket Casts is a bit simpler and easier to use though (I also bought that one as well). Previously I used Downcast for ages.

There is a default settings button in iTunes. Go to Podcasts then Library. It's on the bottom.

Try setting the defaults then setting the individual settings after.

For me in iOS 10 my podcasts would get scrambled every week regardless of settings I chose. The update fixed the bug for me :D

Ive checked the podcast settings and iTunes, I don't see this option. There's nothing at the bottom of the podcast app in library view either, am I doing something wrong ?.

Hate the new Podcast app. A total mess from usability/UI standpoint, imo. v10 was awful, but v11 is a total steaming pile of $#&@

Using it differently than OP, so, have not seen this. Do see similar on desktop where if your sort order is newest on top, and you play an older one, the newer ones do not play.

On iOS, I use the up-next feature to queue up the podcasts I want to play and in which order: this feature is working as previously.

Yeah is the list view of podcasts just gone now? Scrolling through giant thumbnails is terrible how could they have seen this as an improvement over giving me a option between it and list view?
List view is gone. Mark as played is gone. Red bubbles showing number of unplayed podcasts for each show is gone. Any semblance is usability and intuitive interface is gone.

I agree that it's a mess. There isn't even a list of unplayed podcasts, it's all of nothing. Let's hope it's a work in progress.

I have had a station for quite a while now defined that simulates this. Basically create a station with all your podcasts.

That's a good idea. I will look into it. I assume you mean a Smart Playlist that only shows unplayed episodes?

Ive also noticed Play/Pause on the lock screen does nothing, at least on a 6th gen iPod Touch.

I've been using Overcast since updating to iOS 11, its pretty good but I wish I had the iOS 10 Podcast app back, if they brought it back with Overcasts ability to normalise the sound it would be perfect.

I've given it a few days, but I dislike this new version so much I'm looking for alternatives. Is anybody else in the same boat, and what are you using?

I've suggested a few great alternatives earlier in this topic. I switched to a third party podcast app a long time ago. At first I loved and used Downcast for ages but it's getting a bit more buggy and hasn't been updated in ages and not sure how it will now work with iOS11. I haven't made the step yet to iOS11. I can really recommend the frequently updated Pocket Casts (3.99 dollar, pay once) and iCatcher! Podcast Player (2.99 dollar, pay once). The iCatcher one recently received the iOS11 update.

The new Podcasts app is All the apps are now truly atrocious. I cannot understand what they were thinking.

Fixed.

I had to go to each podcast on the podcasts app > select the three vertical dots > settings > done

This fixed the order, but I had to do this to all of them. I use custom settings, so I had to view them all to have them reapplied.

The app is a complete mess. I'm ditching it for a simplified one. Get it together Apple.

I haven’t updated my phone to iOS 11 because of the new podcast app. I use my phone for podcasts more than anything else, and I hate the new podcast app. I tried playing with it on my iPad, but I found it to be really confusing. Not user friendly at all. I’m trying out Overcast to see if I can work with it, but I’ll probably try a few others too. I did follow happygodavid’s suggestion and sent feedback to Apple. I hope that they will consider revising the app to something more usable.

Definitely look into the ones I suggested. I loved them a lot better then Overcast and there is no yearly subscription.
