I have a Podcast that I like to listen to but haven't for several months. 125 unplayed episodes or so built up on my iPhone 6. I got a 7 and connected the 6 to iTunes for the first time and did a local backup. Now my Podcasts are in iTunes only, even after the sync and I have Podcasts checked in the device settings. Somewhere in there the episodes deleted most of them off the phone but I still have them in iTunes. Now there is a second group with the same Podcast name that has more recent podcasts on the Phone and in iTunes.

I have no need for the Podcasts on my computer (I don't want to save them or anything) I just figured they saved into iTunes from my 6 to restore back to the 7.

I want to put all the unplayed podcasts on my phone, have my phone ONLY download the new release podcasts and delete them off my phone once I get around to playing them.

What the heck did I do wrong?

MY suggestion, use Overcast? It's free, does a much better job syncing podcasts, and remembers what you listened to across devices. It's my favorite app now.

Anyone know how to get my old unplayed podcasts that currently reside in iTunes physically back to my iPhone and get the phone only to continue to download and keep new episodes?

I think I might have figured it out. In iTunes under Devices>iPhone>Podcasts I see all the podcasts are greyed out.

I selected all of them, right clicked and selected "Add to device" and that seemed to sync everything over.

I still want to figure out how to get new podcasts to sync and download to the phone only.
