How to export a saved (downloaded) podcast episode to MP3 or other audio file for subsequent editing?​

Is it possible to export a podcast episode saved in the Podcasts app so that I can then edit it as a regular audio file? (For instance, to pull out a small sample extract).

It's not immediately clear how (or if) this can be done in macOS Ventura.

Nothing automated/easy to do this.

Dowloaded episodes are saved in a known location (~/Library/Group Containers/243LU875E5.groups.com.apple.podcasts/Library/Cache) as an mp3 on the Mac but has a unique ID name to the file. So need to figure which file is what and then can copy the file to a different location and mess with it as you wish.

There's a free app that works with the Apple Podcast application for that.

Apple Podcasts allows downloading of episodes for offline use. The problem is getting those files out of the app into non-Apple devices. I fixed that with an Automator workflow which you can also install.
