I've got a Canon SD780is point and shoot. Well… actually, now I've got two. I've dug around in the EXIF data and can't seem to find a way to differentiate the two cameras in Lightroom.

My DSLRs don't' have this issue. Because, although I have a Smart Collection with the camera name, " containing 6D" I can go a step further and divide them per their unique serial numbers, since this is in the EXIF data.

The point and shoots don't seem to have this serial number riding along in the EXIF data. I've looked through and can't seem to find any other defining characteristics that would let me split up the two cameras. Any ideas? It may just not be possible. Not the end of the world, if so…

Thanks!

Is there anything different between the two in exif? Could you at least change the filename sequence?

Assuming not, I'd guess, since there probably aren't many customizable options, that you add some info on import. Since you have to copy from the card one at a time, then add something to metadata to distinguish them. Could be usercomment, or rename the files, or whatever. Or use exiftool to add a fake serial number; maybe that would trick Lr into seeing the cameras as different, as opposed to having to use the filename or usercomment to filter.

Thanks for the input. I guess the best thing to do will be to add some kind of label, or something, at the time of import. There seems to be nothing unique in the EXIF to allow me to split them using that. (I just have to remember to do it… ;)

Cheers!

Almost all cameras have the ability to enter custom file names or at the very least set the counter to files start at some number like 10,000. Set the filenames different.
