I am running into problems with my browsers which do not appear to be affecting other users of this iMac. Basically about 90% of the time when I click on a link in Google or on a page on BBC News, the Guardian etc the pointer does not change into the hand. Instead I get the options to:

open link in new tab
open link in new window
Open link in incognito window etc etc.

This happens and Safari (8.0.2) and in Chrome and is making the computer virtually unusable. This is a new machine which is approximately one month old. My old iMac never had this problem and I have not changed the preferences of either Safari or Chrome. As stated previously no other account on the machine seems to have this problem.

Any advice will be gratefully received. Thanks

Weird problem, but you can try and diagnose the issue by completely uninstalling chrome and then reinstalling it. See if it fixes the issue. Next step would be to reinstall OS (although it is a drastic measure for this problem) if chrome doesn't fix it.

I have set up another user account which doesn't seem to have this problem. I will continue to use the new account and delete the problematic one as long as I don't run into any problems. Thanks for your advice.
