Hello guys

I’m finally getting my Polishing Cloth delivered tomorrow. My MBP M1 has a few finger prints & smudges on the screen. What’s the safest and most effective liquid substance to use to clean the screen?

It is essentially the same cloth provided with the XDR displays. For the most part, you don't need any liquid at all with the cloth. It was designed to clean the display as-is.

Don't use any chemicals/alcohol/screen sprays (Even if Apple has a support page for it). Quality microfibre cloth dampen with water (not soaked, also not soaking when applying pressure).

I always use electrostatic paper to suck up dusts on the display before polishing cloth. I always feel some more abrasive dusts can potentially scratch the display or stay on the polishing cloth.

This it it. I also use them to dust off other easily scratch displays made with soft plastic like dashboard and displays in car, home theater components etc. The trick is to wipe the surface very lightly and let the electrostatic work its magic. I also use them to clean computer keyboard. Of course you can use them on hardwood floor and furniture too.

Thank you. In the past, I always lightly dusted the surface with damp tissue before cleaning with a water and a drop of Dawn. But I like your idea of the electrostatic paper. Then I will follow-up with a polishing cloth.

Well I have a home distiller already so it's not much of an extra step. :) But distilled water doesn't have any minerals or any ... anything really ... so there's no chance of something in the water damaging the screen.

Lol. I honestly use it mostly for drinking water and cooking. Having a free screen cleaner is just a bonus. I've spent so much ridiculous money on screen cleaners that I was rather annoyed to find that water was the best out of all of them.
