Well, that was only 6,000 business people, but I usually think of the business people as the "I gotta be practical. No Macs. Somebody fetch me my darn IBM ThinkPad and a cup of coffee."

Yes, the link was posted here. I voted for the Apple option myself. I didn't really think we would skew the results that badly, though.

Yeah, 60% market share would be nice for Apple.

I guess it would give them more R+D money so they can actually build an error-free rev. A model. :)

ah just knowing that the link was posted here, and probably then passed around the mac web, its not surprising to see the results.

Whether skewed or unskewed, those results are better than seeing 60% on "Yes. I'm retarded and am going to wait until another error-ridden release of Windows comes out that will be on SP2 before Dell/Gateway even ships my new computer. Errr... In other words, I'm waiting for Windows Vista."

It takes them like......6 years to just release an operating system that looks different.....

lame.

I hate PC's...but if Vista is $10 like XP is in my town right now, I'll give it a try.

But it'l still be a piece of crap.

Surely if (and when) Apple gets an x% market share then Windows, would crumble as the software compatability problems would start to go away increasing the market share even more into an eventual snowball.* I'm not sure whether this would also help snowball Linux's market share at the same time.

The real question is what is x? I'd say probably about 15% as Firefox's market share is now about 10% and most websites work properly with it, but not all.

If I wasn't a Mac fan and didn't prefer OS X to Windows and also didn't desperately need a new computer now, I'd wait for Vista to see how bad it is.

If it's worse than Tiger (in most reviews, like Tiger vs XP now.) I'd definitely get a Mac, if it's about as good as Tiger, I'd probably still get a Mac, if it's better (in most reviews like Tiger vs XP now.) I'd probably get a Windows PC.

*As its better!

Well some guy has a screen shot of it in the April Desktops thread. It doesn't look like anything has changed, and what has changed is just cloned from features in Tiger. My guess is that the only reason Vista has been delayed is so they can mimic everything from Tiger and maybe wait and take some stuff from Leopard too.

Daniel.

Business Week has had some problems implementing polls on their site. I just got done putting in about 70,000 votes on one of their polls a few weeks ago...they did eventually figure out what had happened and deleted a whole bunch of votes across the board and changed their polling system, but they're not so good at polling yet.

What Daniel said.

But... hopefully they release Leopard in a time period where Vista is not out yet, but
a) There's not enough time in between for M$ to quickly add "new" features (from Leopard)
b) It's not delayed
c) There's enough time for people to realize "Vista's not out yet and we already know it's gonna be major suckage! But Leopard's amazing! Let's get Leopard!"
d) Leopard is out for the holiday season. (Gotta bug my parents to buy me it :D )

Yeah... I'd say... Leopard comes out mid-November, maybe for Thanksgiving.
Vista comes out in January or February.

Edit: Changed "hopefully they release Tiger it in a time period..." to "hopefully they release Leopard in a time period..." Sorry for the typo, hope it didn't confuse anyone.

I've seen some screenshots from a guy who is beta testing it. It looks like a POS. I'm not impressed at all.

12-18 months after that: Vista SP1... and OS X 10.6 :D

Not going to happen ... they're having enough problems getting their current features working nicely and they can't afford to screw things up by adding new features even now. Vista is "feature complete" right now.

I just realized, that's sounds awfully familiar if you replace Tiger and Leopard with Xbox 360, Vista with PS3, and M$ with Sony.

And I hope I can con/harass/convince my parental units to buy Leopard for me for Christmas for the MBP I'll hopefully have by then.

There is a fundamental problem with the poll, but not in the way that some might think. The last true retail success for Microsoft in the OS business was Windows 95. Customers lined up at midnight to buy it. Since then, Microsoft's OSes have been distributed increasingly in beige boxes by OEMs. There is no reason to believe that Vista will reverse this trend. Vista users will buy it preinstalled on new computers. A very few will replace working installations of XP to install the new OS.

IMHO, Vista offers no compelling reason to upgrade from Windows XP Pro. I'd sooner switch to Linux or Mac OS X rather than Vista.
