A 14” MBA with less than 2.5lbs would be a great option.

Not sure about a 12” model. Too small a screen for long term use.

I got a 16 inch MBP with 32 GB/1 TB. It's more CPU and GPU than I need. I like the 32 GB of RAM, support for two external displays and the screen. An M2 Air with a 15 or 16 inch screen, three USB-C with support for two external displays and options for 24 or 32 GB and I'd be very happy. I'm keeping the MacBook Pro because I don't expect the M2 Air until next summer. I may make the MacBook Pro my desktop.

The new MacBook Pros are not for me. I don't need super powerful. I want a large screen notebook that fits into a normal sized bag.
If the attached rumors and mock-up are correct (off-white only bezels) then count me out. The person who is tweeting has the best forecasting track record. And it’s exactly what Apple would do…forcefully up-sell the better and larger screens in the 14/16 to consumers and pro-sumers.

The Air is meant for portability. A 14" screen is perfect for that purpose I think. But I can understand those who want a cheaper 16" laptop certainly.

Agree that the screen definitely qualifies as portable but the 14 battery is atrocious.

Still have my 11" 2013 MacBook Air, although I don't use it. That was the best laptop I've ever had, so I would have zero interest in a 16" model. But I always thought the 17" MacBook Pro was cool. No need for a laptop these days, but if I ever got another it would probably either be the smallest MacBook Air or largest MacBook Pro.

The LG Gram is a 17 inch thin and very light laptop and they carry them at Costco which means that a lot of them are sold. The model has been around for a few years. It also has great battery life but it's a low-powered Intel chip. I do think that Apple could do very well in this market - I just don't know if they care to. They need to finish work on the iMac, Mac Pro, and updated mini with the PRO/MAX chips so I'm sure that they are very, very busy. I am in no hurry. I am going to enjoy my 16 for some time and, if they happen to get out a thin and light 15, 16, 17, then that could be a mobility option when I want something thin and light.

Yes the LG Gram 17" is an impressive machine. I remain unconvinced that there are many people looking for a 17' laptop for travel/portability purposes though. I would assume it's a niche market and that people looking for such a large screen would be desktop replacement types who would prefer more power. I could be wrong though -- happens all the time.

It’s funny how 16 hours has come to mean “atrocious”. That’s like complaining that the Ferrari that you aren’t going to buy gets terrible gas mileage.

My 2015 MacBook Pro gets 5 hours with a new battery. I have not tested the battery life on my 16 but I assume that it is stellar. I'm sure that it's better than full-day and I'd love to see how it does with Low Power Mode.

BS. The 14 does not give you 16 hours. Real world tests conducted by folks on this forum and YouTubers tell us it’s far less, 6-8 hours.

Apparently the mileage is more like 6 hours. To stay with your analogy this is like taking the Ferrari to do grocery shopping and running out of petrol on the way home.

My 2015 is rated at 8 but I actually get 5. I could do things to improve battery life but I don't care to bother.

Tom's gives the 14 11 hours of battery life web surfing which is what most people do on laptops though you don't need this laptop for doing that. No way I'd get that on my 2015 15. I suspect that battery life varies widely with the workload. I plan to use my 2021 MacBook Pro 16 as a desktop at home and as a mobile workstation in hotel rooms while traveling though there will be times when I am not plugged in but I suspect that the 16 will give me all-day battery life for my workload.

If anything, I'd rather see a small one return. I loved the 11" model for its ultra-tiny footprint and weight. I was a 12" PowerBook guy for a long time, and when I finally decided it was time for a faster ultra-portable, I added an 11" Air to the collection. Excellent little travel machine.
