How long do y'all keep your iMessages/text messages?

This is under settings for iMessage / Message History / Keep Messages

I ask because I've filled up my measly 5GB of iCloud storage ? (thx Apple) and my texts are taking up 1.97 GB... I have it set to keep "1 Year." 30 days seems too short to me... Curious what everybody has theirs set to.

I switched it to 1 year. It was taking up way too much room on “keep forever”.

Well...Apple 1 with 2tb storage. And yes , forever but not for any particular reason....just convenience.....

Mine's set to Forever and I didn't know that it used up iCloud space. I don't use iMessage often.

The reason mine is set to forever may sound morose but, with loved ones, you never truly know if the text you get will be the last one they ever send. In years to come, it would be good to be able to look back at conversations and remember the good times.

I just started paying $0.99/month to get 50GB. It would be good it it were free, but at least they offer a 50GB tier for a nominal fee unlike many cloud storage providers that want $10 or more per month for 1TB as their smallest offering.
