I find I almost always use the iPad in landscape mode. Thought I would toss up a poll to give some app developers a hint on how it is used.

I like Portrait for surfing (less scrolling for long pages), but Landscape for pretty much everything else.

I always pictured using it in portrait before I got it, but I hardly ever use it in portrait. When I hand it to other people to try and they naturally have it in portrait mode first, I feel like I forgot it even had a portrait mode. In my opinion, everything just looks better in landscape mode.

90% or more in landscape, with home button on the left. I only use it in portrait for reading PDFs...or comics. ;)

Landscape most of the time for me unless an app doesn't support it or I'm in a position where it's not as easy to hold.

Honestly depends on what I'm doing.
Reading a PDF, book or a web page - portrait.
Typing email or posting on this forum - landscape.
I tend to rotate the iPad to whichever way the document or video I'm viewing fits best.
Portait is probably >50% of how I view things, though.

80/20.

The only time I use portrait is when I am reading a PDF, iBooks, I'm in a position where I'm holding the iPad rather then sitting it on my lap, table, etc..

If I didn't have the Apple case I'd probably use it in portrait more.

I'd say about 50/50. For web browsing or reading I usually use portrait as I find it easier to hold with one hand. When I am typing or have it on my lap or a table usually landscape since I have the apple case. Portrait gives more content on the screen while browsing the web, as most websites take up more vertical space than they do horizontal.

70/30
I prefer landscape but it's much better to hold with one hand when it is in portrait mode.

good Poll.

I am almost always landscape.

I do love the novelty of going portrait sometimes.

portrait for thumb typing, landscape for touch typing.

in general, I am glad that mobile phones and now the iPad have brought back design for portrait situations...for years little but horizontal for screen design.

edit: 4x3 screen ratio is perfect for a device used in portrait and landscape modes, 16x10 or 16x9 is way too skinny in portrait position...all the other tablets with their 16x9/10 look odd, and are poor for portrait...

With the Internet... almost always.

With books - iBooks and Kindle... never - only portrait.

Some games require it.

So overall, I would say 50/50

Landscape 100% it's actually annoying to me when I encounter an instance when I have to switch to portrait (iPhone apps) having rather large hands I don't have a problem holding it in portrait mode and typing with my thumbs at about the same rate as if it were in my lap using standard type positioning
