I just wanted to see what people were experiencing. This is my first MAC and I am quite surprised at how much this piece of hardware creaks. It feels very flimsy! Thanks for your time in advance! Please post comments! I know this is already being discussed in another thread but I wanted to capture it in a POLL.

i voted the last one. but now i am having problem with control key. now it is annoying.. its so loud when hitting it.

So far it is looking like there is hope that my Macbook Air should get replaced and should NOT creak. Thanks for the votes everyone! Keep 'em comin'!

Appointment

I made an appointment at the apple store tomorrow. Good thing I have some vacation this week. I am on my 13th day with my MBA. I will post tomorrow after the appointment to let you know how it went. In addition, this is my second MBA. The first one I got (ordered after announcement) it arrived, i played with it for a few hours, came home later and the thing never woke up again. It was dead. I wonder what they can do for me since this will be a second messed up MBA. Lame!

My 13.3" creaks, but only when you lift it from the palm rest. If you lift it from the back it's totally silent.

I was one of the first ones to post about my MBA creaking. I was told on the forum that I was being anal. I took it to the genius bar and they told me that it was normal and that there was nothing they could do. I then called apple care, got someone from the engineering dept. somehow. He had me bring it back and they "captured" it for testing. even at that, the genius wanted me to know that this is not something they usually do since there is really
nothing wrong.

I hope they are more sympathetic to you tomorrow.

At the apple store they told me that it is because it is such a flexible body. The guy at first said he heard the creak...then said there is nothing wrong with it. I got him to agree to replace it since he could hear it "more" on my particular air. I have a CTO Air so I am working right now with the sales people for the online store. I will have to purchase another Air and ship back my current air once I get the new one for a full refund. Let's hope my replacement is not the same! If it is I may consider getting a Macbook Pro...although I do not really want to.

I know. its a shame. they are nice computers but this one thing makes it feel and sound cheap. I have a theory that some of the bottom plates are bowed out a bit there for you can feel flexing when you push it. I think that flexing causes noises as well as the aluminium rubbing at the seem. The ones that i have found that the bottoms dont flex have not creaked for me.


I ended up getting a 11" ultimate and it is completely quiet.

Odd, it's usually not done that way. Once you request a replacement over the phone with Customer Service they will email you shipping labels. You then pack up your Mac and ship it back, the moment the shipping company scans the barcode on your shipping label the info is sent immediately to Apple and they begin to ship out your replacement. No need to purchase another one and then get a refund for the defective one.

they do it this way when the customer can not be without a computer for any length of time. since it still functions, he can still use it until the new one arrives.

They call this an "advanced replacement"

Yeah. I use my computer for work and cannot be without it. I do not carry a balance on my credit card so it works out just fine for me.
