Curious on where the community stands on maps app usage these days.

I couldn’t be a bigger Apple fanboy, but I still can’t come around to switching to Apple Maps. Most of my non-tech friends though do prefer Apple Maps which I find interesting.

For me — something about the location search, navigation UX, and overall UI of Apple Maps just doesn’t hit the mark. Plus, it is still far behind Google in terms of street view in my area (WI). Offline maps added last year was a big improvement. I have tried numerous times to give it a shot as I love the convenience of requesting nav to a POI with Siri.

Magic Earth is my preferred map app by far!
It is $free and does everything i need, including offline maps.

[edit] And who needs it, a dashcam is also included! 👍

I am using Apple Maps since I have my new car with wireless carplay. It works the best and uses the least battery on my iPhone. I didn`t had any issues so far mit Apple Maps.

Apple Maps is completely useless in my country. It has no information about businesses, it is REALLY bad at finding a specific address if you don't type it out exactly as it's spelled in our language.

Sometimes I'll type in the address I'm looking for, and it'll show me the same but in a different city (or country entirely), because the spelling of that matches how I spelled it in the search.
This is because we use 2 alphabets and addresses can be spelled both ways, depends how it was added to Maps I suppose. Then, I have to go back and specify that I'm looking for that address in the city I'm in by adding the name of the city in the search box.

Overall it's a complete and inadequate mess that makes you wonder if the people at Apple have ever looked past California.

Businesses, landmarks and other places mostly aren't present in it because people don't use it, so you just can't type in "pharmacy" and see options. It'll show you a pharmacy that's 100 kilometers away that is somehow on Apple Maps, but that's it. One time it wanted to take me to Romania. Google Maps is where everything's at.

I'd use Apple Maps if it were good, obviously. I don't want Google to know where I'm at and where I'm going but oh well.

For any road trip, we always use Waze. For anything around town or under an hour drive, I’ll use Apple Maps. I have Google Maps installed and will occasionally use it, especially if they have a better route to take for drive around the area.

Dont drive as much as i used to after switching jobs meaning an hour commute each way every day became 10mins by car and 15mins by bike. However when i was commuting i generally used Apple Maps just because it generally would just put up my location without searching as it guessed from significant locations or was in my calendar but i would also having Waze running in the background which gives you the crowd sourced alerts for issues on your route. I tried using Waze but i found the routing strange at times and i cant stand the way it looks.

I would also check Google Maps when on route to make sure it and Apple agreed on traffic etc if i wasnt sure of something.

Waze. Apple Maps still occasionally provides crazy routes that make no sense, especially if needing to reroute because of traffic or an accident. Just cannot be relied on. Google Maps acts squirrelly with network dead spots.
