With the adoption of thunderbolt at 10Gb/s in every new iMac, i am interested to see how many people would go with a Thunerbolt external for boot/applications over internal SSD, as it would be (theoretically) faster.

I know some people love that their iMac is all-in-one, but i know others, including myself would love the blistering speed! An iMac tends to sit on a desk after all...

Thoughts?

You should make this thread an actual poll, with options we can choose, so you can observe the tendency, as others too.

Well, it´s all about your budget, if you have another $600 to give to Apple, it´s cool to order 256Gb SSD from them, they´re quite properly priced, though they dont use the best SSD available. But it´s neat to have them installed inside, as all in one should be.

I, personally going rebel about SSD, I don´t want to spend another $600 only for SSD, though it´s great :(
But I dont want to install them inside, because the proper kits to do so would be pricey anyway.

So I decided to wait Thunderbolt SSD drive and buy smaller 128Gb SSD, which in my 2cent would cost around $300 - $400 along with the case. Well it might seems expensive, but you get 10Gbps bandwidth (perform equally compared to internal with SATA III), cool chassis (if you buy the good one), and also removable in case you need it.

If you´re a regular guy, how would you use Thunderbolt anyway? It´s not like USB, not yet anyway. Beside if Thunderbolt being more common, you can always chain it without the need of another Thunderbolt port. Cool

i don't know how to create a poll. :( i've looked around the place but can't find anything, maybe has something to do with the fact that i'm new here?

also i was aiming it at the idea of using it as an external for speed as when/if thunderbolt peripherals and externals become available, they 'theoretically' will transfer data faster than an internal SSD as i seem to have made it unclear for some of the replies :)

haha ... it´s cool .. If you don´t mind let me tell you how

When you create a new thread, post it like a regular thread .. BUT in the bottom of your screen, there would be a tiny CHECKBOX .. write as ¨Yes, post a poll with this thread¨ ... look for it, or scroll down until you find it if your screen aint big enough :)

Below it there should be a textbox ¨Number of poll options¨ .. fill it with how many options you´d like to have with your poll .. if it´s only Thunderbolt or SSD, you can write ¨2¨ options.

Later you´ll be brought to poll setting after you click ¨Submit New Thread¨

This also applies to most other forums too
