I was never on WhatsApp. It’s owned by Zuck so how would anyone think it’s private or secure? 😂
I wasn't either but ended up there because a health issue made me need to be reachable by family living abroad and they were all whatsapp users. With this change in privacy policy, they seem to be more willing to make the switch.

I think it’s an okay app if you understand that you’re having a public conversation. Basically you have to act like you’re at a restaurant with people around

Installed signal in my phone, but so far nobody else’s on it... 😂
Did you try to send a message? It will then show you who among your contacts is on signal.

Why not signal?
Why not signal?
The above image comparison is untrue.
I prefer Telegram over Signal as I don’t like who Signal foundation are. I’ve done my research some time ago, and haven’t recently jumped off the WhatsApp band wagon, I jumped when Facebook took over.

Thanks. Are you able to share your concerns?

The problem with messaging apps is that what you want to use isnt really a big part of the decision, its all down to what the people you want to message are using. Its all well and good you deciding you dont want to use Whatsapp because of changes but if the people you are wanting to message dont make the change as well its pretty pointless. You just have a new messaging app on your phone and no one to send messages to.

This is especially true in Europe. I'd love to switch but getting all my friends, and then their friends and so on and so on to also switch is nigh on impossible.

This is my question, why even use these apps when they won't receive an SMS text? Seems like you are guaranteed to be missing texts or getting redundant notifications that someone sent you a message??? Curious what I'm missing?

You get notifications and unread numbers on the icon like the messaging app so you shouldnt miss them unless you arent looking or change these settings to see the various things alerting you to messages.

They seem to in the main have been born out of Android where there was\is no iMessage built in as such and from the years where people had a certain number of SMS built into their plan. Things like whatsapp got round the restriction by letting you do it for free basically and cross platform eg iOS to Android and vice versa. Add in things like group chats which was only added to iMessage in the last couple of years and you can see why people use them.

I stopped using WhatsApp when the news came of the company being sold to Facebook. I knew the day would come. I have believed they always did that in an underhanded manner since the sell. Later on, it started with them uploading contacts to their servers, and now they are making their marriage official.

I am glad that at least now some of my contacts will be seen on Telegram and Signal.

OP should also have an option "already on Signal/ Telegram" for better participation. As it stands right now, I cannot answer the poll since I was already on Signal/ Telegram long ago and I cannot check any of the options listed since they are not true for me. So, am I moving because of the update? No. But saying No would imply that I might be on WhatsApp and might remain with WhatsApp. Makes the poll rather pointed.

For what its worth....Whatsapp users in the UK will see a message about this but as yet are not affected by the change to the terms. Not 100% sure why other than presumably different data laws or something.

I might change from WhatsApp if all but 2 people I ever text didn’t use it.. it’s just my dad and one friend who don’t use WhatsApp so would be a bit of a mammoth task to get everyone I know to start using a different platform

This morning, I removed WhatsApp from my phone. So I have updated my vote from "Trying to move" to "Yes".

Interestingly, while the US press hasn't made much noise about it, there's big time noise by the press in India. So nearly all of my friends and family have moved to Signal.

Now FB is doing a CYA by saying they won't monetize personal chats. Yeah right, we believe you. If you were clean, FB, why didn't you make that clear to begin with? They are trying to screw over simple minded folks.
