Hi,

just wanted to see who would buy a Psystar, Hackintosh or EFix.

The poll has 6 questions so we can see if pros would buy a hackintosh or only consumers or if young people would buy one or if you think breaking the OS X EULA is morrally ok.

I personally thought I would never buy one but now with apple making less and less different models........

I voted yes a hachintosh but if there were an expandable sub $ 1000.00 Mac I'd prefer AAPL ended up with my money

Totally, if they made a netbook grade laptop that runs osx with a 5ghz network card a backlit keyboard and a multitouch trackpad

I would prefer to buy Apple, but if they drove me away with unsatisfactory offerings, I would build my own hackintosh.

no, unless apple provides full support.

well i was thinking the same. but i have a windows notebook that i need anyway. so i thought it would be cool to have it boot into OSX if i need it.

if i was a gamer i cold see going psystar or if i had moniotor and all at home and wanted to switch.

but so far i would not still buy the same number of macs even if i bought a hackintosh. so there is no real loss to apple. however the lack of variety in apples line up makes me buy less from them (e.g. netbook, up to date mini)

I would only buy Apple branded products for OS X. Why? Apple fully states that you can only use OS X on Apple branded products and it seems wrong to break the rules. I also think that the experience is a lot better on an Apple branded product and you get to enjoy the extra features Apple adds in. Although Apple price things higher than the competitors, I still think Apple products are worth the money. The design really matches OS X, so OS X looks great on their products.

No way I would buy from them. If Apple opened the doors to people installing legally I would build my own machine as I have always done.

i spec'd a few configurations and i don't think that psystar is inexpensive. a 2.83 quadcore costs about $2000. i would then rather buy a Mac Pro Octocore for $2799 or a refurb Mac Pro.

For lower specs it's similar. for 20% more you get an iMac.

The only reasons I can see to buy the Psystar is if you want it as a gaming machine or if you have a absolute upper limit what you can spend. In the latter case I would rather compromise and go for a very cheap PC or a refurb Mac mini and save even more money.

I would be interested in EFix solution to convert an existing PC into a robust Mac. But I'm not sure if EFix is that good and they don't have a solution for notebooks anyway.

That really was an interesting poll.

On a personal side, I think EULA's are not really too valid. I'm sure I'll catch flack, but I think it's more a suggestion than a agreement. After all, I have no power as the consumer to argue for a better deal on my own behalf.

As for OSX, I am intrigued with the idea of creating a home brew mac. You could do some really wicked stuff with design and power for less. It won't be officially Apple, but just stick an Apple sticker on it. That'll make it "Apple branded hardware."

It'll be interesting to see what happens with that poll. I look forward to look back in a few days.
