Anyone know how I might restore it? One post on a different forum from a long time ago said to use iphonebrowser to delete the file at /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist but I can't even get iphonebrowser to work. Seems to be an old app/program that no longer works with current iOS. Any ideas?

Can you open safari and navigate to:

Cydia://

This should open cydia. You can uninstall poof and then use something like icleaner or a file manager to remove the poof plist.

I was able to get into cydia using the safari --> Cydia:// method and uninstalled poof. It still doesn't unhide the icons though. Very newbie here when it comes to jailbreaking.... if I use a file manager, what exactly is the directory I'd need to delete to try to get icons to reappear? Will try to use iCleaner in the mean time. No other apps that can unhide? My SBSettings keeps crashing for whatever reason, otherwise I'd just use that.

Downloaded icleaner and cleaned all the categories and rebooted phone but still no icons showing, even after poof was uninstalled.

you will probably spend less time restoring. back up your phone and restore it. do it quick, apple will release an update soon, which may or may not close any holes to jailbreak.

good luck!

Well the thing is, I'm trying to figure out a way to be able to restore both icons without a reboot since I still do want to be able to remove icons from my pages to reduce clutter while knowing I can get them back later if possible. How do I boot in safe mode? Any other ideas? I'm on iphone 5 with iOS 8.1.2

It's very easy and simple.
Next time just don't hide the poofs own app icon or you will not be able to access the program to hide or restore back the icons.
All this wasting time you could have restored and jb again and be up and running with no probs.

Poof App in Cydia -- I removed both poof and cydia icon

Reboot while holding volume up. Icons will be visible.

This. Don't know why you'd restore or anything when safe mode will bring it back. I'd reinstall poof first though. Then boot into safe mode and unhide apps in poof.

Also, I've found hiding apps using springtomize to be better than poof. You can still access them in the search so this wouldn't happen.

Booting your phone in safe mode should work as well

Reboot while holding volume up. Icons will be visible.

I believe poof isn't a tweak that hooks into mobilesubstrate. i think it modifies the springboard.plist file and removes the entry for the selected apps to hide

you could try settings -> general -> reset -> reset home screen layout
i think that'll return all your hidden apps (if i'm correct that poof modifies the springboard.plist file)
