Hey everyone, I just purchased an original airport card for my ibook g3, and well, simply put, the range is terrible. right now I have an airport express set up in my room, and my range will last me a good 10 feet at best. i can walk towards the door, but the card has yet to work with the airport express out of the line of sight.

In comparison, my powerbook g4 with an airport extreme picks up a signal, and runs pretty speedily a floor and a half downstairs.

So I think I can safely conclude it'snot the station. Is it a bum card? is there anything I can do?

Also, what is the little cable i plug into the card in the front. the cable extending from my ibook was slightly frayyed at the connector, if that's detrimental. Thanks all

I think you're talking about the antenna cable and so yes, if it's frayed then that's probably your problem. Plug it in as securely as possible. :)

whats the typo? i meant poop. :)
HAHAH! yeah i love the poop :) Adds a nice flare
But as for the airport card, if it is frayed then if you have just bought it return it for a shiny new one, if it is not, you might have to buckle down for a new one my friend :/.

Rule of Mexican Thumb: Duck Tape and Aluminum Foil fixes everything :) .

Ill let your mind decide how to use that to fix it... ^^^^

Yes, that cable is very important because it is what connects the Airport to the build in antenna inside the ibook. Without that cable being connected to the airport card, you will have poop reception.

In your head.
Try plugging the lucent connecter in and out a few time, you may be lucky, it could just be a poor connection. The connecter should seat completely into the card, if I remember correctly. If it is still bad that I would take it back.

If you can't take it back, know that the shielding around the cable is important. You might be able to fix is with soldering braid. 10" feet is unacceptable, even if you have a card that is only b compliant.

Eh, had to go all technical and go the right way... lol,

<<but I would have to agree, that would be better then aluminum foil or tape :D >>
