I've been having a slight issue with my Air. I went through the reformat/reinstall process a week or two ago because I was trying to put a Windows partition on the machine for some light gaming, but I ended up changing my mind and revoking the Boot Camp part entirely. Nevertheless, since I've reinstalled, I have noticed a big decrease in the Air's capabilities re: graphics and gaming that I am all but certain isn't placebo.
I've done this process a hundred times before and nothing was any different this time around, so I don't know what I could have done (or have forgotten to do) to bring about this issue, but it's driving me nuts. I previously had an XP virtual machine that I used under Parallels for a little bit of gaming and, for example, League of Legends was perfectly playable even if I had to dial down the settings to low to get 30/45 FPS. Now I can get 15 FPS if I close everything but Parallels and lower the resolution considerably. I also have a 27" monitor with a 2560x1440 resolution and anything like switching between spaces or Expose or even going into Time Machine brings the computer to a crawl.
I'm not doing anything differently on the laptop than I had been in the past and everything is up to date. The only thing I did in the reinstallation process was install the 10.6.7 combo update rather than go one by one. I know that there was a graphics driver update in 10.6.4 or .5, but I would assume that would be included in the combo update? At any rate I can't do anything about it now unless that update is available on its own.
Anybody have any advice?
