I have been complaining on this board for a long time about the poor iphone reception I get in San Diego. I listened to people on this board and went to my ATT store and replaced both the SIM in my iphone and my wife's as well. When they pulled the cards out of both phones they had gouges in them which caused the ATT rep to look quite shocked. We replaced the cards and connectivity improved dramatically. Now, to be fair, ATT still has absolutely terrible coverage in the Santaluz, Fairbanks, Rancho Santa Fe areas of San Diego even though I can see the towers on Black Mountain from my house, but now I am just annoyed and not really pissed of as I was in the past because overall reception quality has improved.
Lesson learned: if you are having reception problems, go to either ATT or Apple and replace the SIM ASAP. This should be your first step.
