hello,

Dose anyone more have issues on reception with iphone x?

Before when i had iphone 6 on places i am now i had good 4g .. now with X i got poor 3G.

My frends have iphone 6s and 7 and they have good 4G but i have 3G or even ”E” sometimes, and we are sitting on same place, and also using the same operator.

Of course i get 4G on some places also, but generally its poor compared to previous iphones.

What could be wrong? I have reset network settings but its still the same, reboted the phone and everything.

I have had the phone for 3weeks.. i have been most on wifi so i didnt even notice this untill now.

yup my 7+ has a little better reception too.what network are you on?on my att it only gets 3g,4g and lte no more E or 2g.i have fewer drop calls on my 7+.i also notice that on my X i have less bar than on my 7+ but same speed

I am on Tele2.(sweden). but i dont think it have anything to do with operator because before i didnt have any problems with Iphone 6. And as i said, when im with frends om some places they have 4g and i have 3g or even E sometimes.

Im on IOS 11.2.1, i will update on the final release of 11.2.* ..
Also i will turn of wifi now and monitor it more.

I think the reception is really poor on X, so when "masts" are far away its when i see problem. That was not problem with I6. If masts(signals) are near i also get 4g.

Or maybe its just fault with my X and not generall problems of all..?
Anyway, i will give it a week and if its the same, i will go to apple store...and COMPLAIN big time.

Replace phone

Possibly a hardware issue. However, it depends on your device. If you go into Settings>General>About and tap on the model number. It will give you a 4-5 digit and compare it with https://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/

GSM/CDMA (SIM free) model has Qualcomm modem which provides better LTE coverage than Intel GSM only. I had the iPhone 7 GSM model where I would notice slight difference in area I would get low coverage but slight better on coverage on iPhone X GSM/CMDA model. The Intel modem at times have a long delay reconnecting to network after exiting tunnels or subways where you have to manually toggle airplane mode.

Have you tried going to the About setting pane and see if there is a new carrier update for your device? Carriers at time issue carrier update to fix connectivity issues.

i dont think its a hardware issue.its been discussed in the forum many times about the X being inferior to the 7 or even on the 6s,i think its because on the new design stainless steel and glass.ive run several test vs my 7+ and pretty much the same speed but when in a poor reception area my 7+ hangs a little bit while my X signal disappears completely.btw i have the unlock verizon aka the qualcomm paid outright at the apple store

You explained it so good! Exacly the problem. I just came from a place with not bad reception but not grate but i still had 4G or very strong 3G from that place with Iphone 6 and on X its ”E”(edge?).
THEN inside my apartment i still had ”E” for 5 minutes before it did go on 4G.

Its frustrating! I had to go on wifi to enter forum to write this.

anyone more noticed this with reception. ?
[doublepost=1516230810][/doublepost]My phone is GSM model, with simcard. I think its only modell that sells in whole europa.

yup thats it.it takes way longer to switch from lte to 3g/4g when lte is weak and that made my call from messenger or line to cutoff.i think its a software bug.i thought it happen on my 7+ when i first got it but it did got better after many updates.

I hope its software bug. But i did search on google and here and people have had problems with it since the first week with X.
I’m on 11.2.1 since first use(updated it before restoring itunes backup).

About switching, on previous iphone if you put on airplane mode and back - it took couple of seconds to find the reception. On X when doing same thing and as fast you put it back it show the same reception as before. without any searching. If it is in E, it will bring E back, if its 4g - 4G again. Without searching which allways took couple of seconds. Is it same for you on your X?

By the way i have A1901 modell, and carrier says its 31.0

[doublepost=1517866993][/doublepost]Nope, I the iPhone X with the Qualcomm chip. No problems at all, very fast machine!

As a person who owned both an iPhone 8 Plus and a X with the Intel modem, I can tell that the Intel modem in those phones is very inferior to the Qualcomm one. I was lucky enough to be able to return the X with the Intel after using it for a month. I got an unlocked one with Qualcomm instead. The difference is very significant. I don’t have any problems related to the reception anymore. As somebody has pointed it out correctly above, the Intel modem has terrible long delays while reconnecting after losing the signal. On top of that, its signal strength is very poor. I can’t believe Apple is not sued for that, frankly speaking. In many scenarios the Intel X and 8 Plus are unusable as phones in low signal areas!

I have the same issue with my phone. If I put my SIM-card in another phone at the exact same spot i have 4G on that phone but E on my Iphone X. If i put another SIM-card in my Iphone X it also gets E instead of 4G.

I have contacted apple support and tried all their suggestions (from reseting the network settings to reseting the cellphone to the factory reset) and nothing works. So they have asked me to hand the phone in since it might be an hardware issue, but i am sceptical like you with getting a refurbished one back or and old one? What do you think I should do?

I've had reception issues when I still had an iPhone 7 Plus(Intel), had a 8 Plus(Intel) briefly, and now have an X(Qualcomm). I have AT&T for my provider BTW.

My issue is, in a lot of places it just sits on 1 bar of LTE. I used to look at the service menu for the DB value, and when it was at 1 bar it was usually around -110 to -115 db or so.

I used to have a Google Pixel XL, which is known to not have great reception, but it was always better than my iPhones. For example, when my iPhone would show -110 db, my pixel would show around -90db. I'd get 1 bar on my iPhone and 4 bars on the Pixel.

I never really understood why the iPhone has such bad reception these past years.

yes maybe beacaue you get lte on your iphone and 4g(3g+)not lte on your pixel?att doesnt show 4g on iphone now only 3g but it still get same speed with 4g(3g+) on different phone.make sure to turn off lte of both iphone and pixel and do speedtest that way you sure its fair

With AT&T, the Pixel will show 4G if it's on HSPA+, but when it says LTE, it is actually on LTE.

So yes the Pixel was getting much better signal on LTE than the iPhones I mentioned.

I had very similar issues with signal dropouts. The phone showed 2-3 lines of 3G/4G but there was no data connection. I even had calls drops. The same with airplane mode taking time to find signal afterwards. It was very irritating to be offline right in the city centre.

I’m in Sweden as well with Tele2. I contacted my carrier, I got a new SIM, I contacted Apple support and went through the whole “Reset Network settings”, “Set up as new” routine but nothing helped. In the end Apple send a courier to pick up my X to check it out. They send a new phone the next day, and I received it the third.

I haven’t had an issue yet with the new phone, and I have confirmed that it does have better signal reception. In places I had 1-2 lines of 4G I now have 2-3 lines. Though I’d like to test a week more to be certain that all is well.

It’s so subjective without having access to the hardware tools to measure signal strength. Between tower location, utilization by numerous users, and the case on the phone, there are som many variables. Anecdotally, I have noticed some reception issues with the iPhone X, but am ma now trying a different case to see if signal strength is impeded by the carbon case.

Anyway.... i got the new(replacememt) phone.. they told me that they hade some more people visiting for same reason and dont know the real reason..

With this replacement phone i got 4G with 2 dots, instead of 3G with 1-2 dots and also EDGE , comparing with the same place.

Much more stable! But i still dont think its good as Samsung Phones are with reception and i really dont know why apple dont work more on this. Bad reception makes phone crap. If i cant use all apps i could go and using nokia 3310 :/
