Poor wifi after sleep

when my air returns from sleep i go from full airport connection to 2 bars and websites load so slowly... prior to sleep everything is fine and so is resetting the air and everything returns to normal... this however is annoying...

anyone got any ideas how to solve this???

any other wireless devices on your network? (probably a silly question) I am not a network expert but when I was on a Vista laptop, connected to our wireless router and my husband powered on or woke up his MB, I would frequently lose my network connection.. It seemed like his MB had an IP address in mind and even tho our router is set up for DHCP, if my laptop had picked up that IP on boot up his MB bumped me off that IP address and I lost my connection...

I have a MBA now and it still seems like his MB is a network bully... This weekend he had his MB on then closed the lid and let it sleep... I powered on my MBA and I was working just fine for a while... He woke his MB up while I was on my work VPN and all of a sudden I got booted off my work VPN.. My Airport icon started spinning and it got connected again without me having to do anything but all of a sudden I had a new IP... I imagine depending on if we had a different router or different settings, we might end up with more than one device fighting over the same IP which would slow data speeds or even stop all data..

Thats an interesting point about a conflicting IP. I have this same issue. Im pulling a transmit rate of 130 until I sleep my MBP, upon wake up Im not even getting a transmit rate of over 10. I shut off aiport and turn it back on and boom, back to 130.
I wonder if when the mac sleeps it gives it IP back to the DHCP pool and makes it available. When you wake up the mac, it should automatically grab an IP, but if the Airport thinks it still has an IP it might not ever send a request.
I might go to the Apple store next week. If I do, Ill ask a genius about it and let the OP know.

I'm having this same problem on my CoreDuo iMac 20". It has a built-in wireless G card, and I'm using a dlink DIR-655 wifi router. The internet works great after restarting the computer, but is deadly slow after waking from sleep. Pages take forever to load. Downloading a test file from my ISP's servers normally goes at 500+kbps, but I get around 10kbps during this slow period until I restart the computer. Turning airport card on/off and reconnecting to the network does not solve the issue... a restart is always required.

This is very frustrating! I've only noticed this problem recently... possibly due to upgrading to 10.5.5?
