Hi,

On one of our iphones some ad redirected to a malicious URL that keeps opening error messages in safari ("Safari cannot open the page because the address is invalid")

It's on iOS 10.1.1

Is there a way to close tabs when an error message is up? I tried killing safari and restarting the iPhone.

If your on a plus thenturning the phone to landscape gives you access to the tabs. If it's the current tab then the close x is displayed.

Ok, thanks Yun0. That fixes it.

I hope apple fixes that, though. The popup should be part of the website and not block the whole browser.

I just turn-off WiFi. Close the app (double-tap the Home button, swipe it up). Then, open Safari and hit the tab button and close the site.

Then turn WiFi back on.

What Rok73 said.

Another thing to try is force quit Safari. Go into settings > Safari > Advanced and turn off Javascript. Restart Safari and you might be able to close the offending tab. Re-enable Javascript.

On force touch device, you can create a new tab using force touch, and then close that tab containing malicious tab using tab view.

I had same problem, I closed safari and used Siri to open a page which it opened in safari and then I tap and hold on tab icon and closed all tabs. I hope this was helpful.
